Golden Retriever Waits Anxiously While His Best Friend Is ‘On the Operating Table’

The first dog my husband and I ever adopted was a Golden Retriever/German Shepherd mix. He had a stuffed pig that he loved, and we didn’t buy a back-up pig. We… knew… nothing… about… dogs!

For the next 14 years, we became ‘pig repair specialists.’ Arm split open? No problem? Is the tail coming off? No problem. Eye fell out? Ooooff, let’s import Grandma for that repair. Now, if a dog shows a semblance of more than a passing interest in a stuffed toy, we buy two. We learned a valuable lesson from how much our dog LOVED that pig.

Golden Retriever Puck has had his stuffed bear for most of his life. It’s threadbare and definitely could use some stuffing and, now, urgently in need of minor surgery. In this cute video, dad steps in to save the day, and the way Puck sits and patiently watches the repairs is absolutely adorable. A total mix of trust, concern, hope, and definitely readiness.

This video is getting everyone all sorts of choked up! “So much love in this one short video,” said one person. Another asked, “Why did this make me cry? He’s so cute.”

It’s such a simple gesture but a total act of love and a promise to Puck that, as long as his parents were around, Puck’s most treasured comfort wouldn’t be taken away from him without a fight. For those of us lucky enough to share our homes with dogs, these moments hit especially hard. They remind us that our pets notice the little things, and that they really matter.

It turns out your pup’s favorite stuffed duck does all sorts of great things for his mental and physical well-being! Playing with it can engage their prey drive, while also giving them mental stimulation, physical exercise, and just keeping them healthier overall.

This video is a great reminder that showing your pet love isn’t always about a big gesture. Sometimes, it’s as simple as sewing up a slobbery, threadbare teddy bear on a Thursday night.
