Golden Retriever Waiting for Little Brother on His First Day of School Is Breaking Hearts
Going back to school in late summer can be chaotic for teachers, but it can also be a saving grace for exhausted parents. Regardless of how you feel about the school year starting up again, however, there’s one family member who dislikes it more than anyone else.
Take it from Beau, a Golden Retriever who loves his brother more than anything: dogs wish their kids could all be homeschooled! His parents, Erica and Frank, knew that their son’s first day of school would be tough on everyone, but they had no idea just how lonely Beau would be without Frankie at home. The sad dog spent all day waiting for his little brother to come home, and it broke everyone’s hearts!
Pass the tissues, please! This devoted dog wouldn’t even leave the foyer in case Frankie came back in, and it shatters my heart to think about how long he sat there. For both Frankie and Beau’s sake, I hope the sweet little boy only goes to school for a half-day!

“That was the longest day ever,” commenter @thehuskymoon agreed. I know how minutes feel like hours when my bestie isn’t around, so I can only imagine how Beau was feeling while Frankie was at school.
As cool as it would be for Frankie to be homeschooled, getting into the school year routine will be beneficial for both of them. Beau will learn to be independent as he realizes that his BFF will return every day, while Frankie begins his education journey. Even though this family dog may prioritise his little brother, he can learn to enjoy his alone time, too.
Golden Retrievers as Family Dogs
Dogs of any breed could be excellent pets for families, but there are many qualities that make Goldens many families’ dream dogs. Their friendliness and easygoing natures are impossible to resist, but it’s their gentleness and versatility that make them excellent playmates for kids.
Golden Retrievers were bred to live and work alongside people, and although the vast majority of Goldens no longer work, they still possess many of the same qualities that help them bond with people. Just take it from Beau—he couldn’t adore his little brother any more if he tried!
