Baby Bear Cubs Cause a Traffic Jam While Mom Tries to Keep Them in Line
Sometimes we, as parents, have the most difficulty getting our kids to listen to simple instructions. Whether you’re trying to get your kids out the door before the school bus arrives or to stop touching everything in the store as you browse the aisle, there’s so much truth to the saying “kids will be kids.”
One black bear family in North Carolina recently demonstrated that not listening to their parents is not limited to human offspring. A mama bear was spotted trying her hardest to get her cubs out of the road as they literally stopped traffic on the well-traveled Blue Ridge Parkway.
As traffic came to a standstill, one driver was able to capture a video of the scene as it unfolded:
User @madelynonthemove shared the video as an Instagram Reel as a public service announcement, alerting drivers to the prevalence of bears along the popular scenic route in Asheville, North Carolina.
The video is accompanied by playful instrumental music and shows two young bear cubs up on their hind legs, roughhousing in the middle of a busy roadway. Viewers can see a long line of slow-moving cars and glowing brake lights as traffic backs up behind the little bears. In the next clip, a third bear has joined the fun, stalling drivers even more.
Eventually, a large female black bear enters the frame and corrals her cubs out of the street to safety. Viewers immediately related to the mama bear’s situation, providing hilarious commentary. One viewer chortled, “Children, how many times have I said: don’t play in the middle of the road” 🐻 🐻.” Another joked, “Mom is like, “if y’all don’t get out of the damn road!!” 😂😂😂😂.”
What to Do If You Encounter a Bear
While this bear family had drivers patiently waiting and smiling, wildlife experts remind visitors that seeing bears from a distance is always best—especially when young cubs are involved.
