Introduction

You may have heard that Chihuahuas are named after the state of Chihuahua in Mexico. That’s not exactly true. They were actually first discovered by the Toltec Indians, who bred them as a companion animal for their children and young adults. The name “Chihuahua” comes from the city of this same name, which is located in northern Mexico near El Paso, Texas. In fact, there’s evidence that these little dogs have been around since at least 300 BCE! Today there are over 30 recognized types of Chihuahua mix breeds (including “Peke-a-poo”) but they all have one thing in common: They’re all so darn cute!

Chihuahuas were originally bred by the Toltec Indians.

The Toltecs were a group of people who lived in Mexico and developed their own culture and language in the 13th century. They named their dogs after the state of Chihuahua, where they were first discovered. In fact, there is no evidence that these dogs actually originated in Mexico at all–they may have come from a small village called Cuernavaca instead!

Chihuahuas are named after the state of Chihuahua in Mexico, where they were first discovered.

The name “Chihuahua” comes from a Native American tribe called the Chichimeca and means “small dog.” It’s also a Spanish word that means “little fighter,” which is appropriate considering how feisty these dogs can be!

Chihuahuas were first discovered in the 19th century when a man named Samuel B. Rondero found them while hunting wild rabbits on his ranch near Casas Grandes (now known as Casas Negras).

Chihuahuas aren’t really from Mexico, but rather from a small village in Mexico called Cuernavaca.

The Toltec Indians were the first to breed these tiny dogs and used them as pets for their children.

These dogs are also known as “Mexican Hairless,” because they don’t have much fur at all!

There are over 30 different types of Chihuahua mix breeds that are recognized by registries today.

The most popular are long-coat and short-coat, but there are many other types including applehead, dapple and merle.

In fact, the term “Chihuahua mix” can be applied to any breed that has been crossed with another breed of dog in order to create a new one – such as Cocker Spaniel x Poodle or Beagle x Pug.

The long-coat variety of Chihuahua has come to be known as ‘Peke-a-poo’ or ‘Pekeapoo’ – a cross between a Pekingese and a Pomeranian or another small dog breed.

The word “Pekinese” is derived from the Chinese city of Peking (Beijing) where these dogs were first seen by Europeans during the 17th century. Their popularity soared when Queen Victoria took an interest in them, but fell after she died in 1901. The Pekeapoo was developed by crossing two breeds: either a Pekingese with one of its close relatives such as the Tibetan Spaniel, Maltese Terrier or Japanese Chin; or a Yorkshire Terrier with its close relative Cocker Spaniel

The short-coat variety of Chihuahua was first recognized in America in 1891 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The breed was known as the Mexican Hairless, but it wasn’t until 1904 that they were officially named “Chihuahua.”

The first Chihuahuas were brought to the United States by Spanish missionaries who traveled from Mexico to Texas and later California. They were used as guard dogs for their homes because they were small enough to fit into small spaces where larger dogs could not go, yet still fierce enough to protect themselves against intruders.

In the late 1880s, the popularity of the breed began to decline because of its association with Mexican revolutionaries.

The Chihuahua was first bred by the Toltec Indians, who lived in Mexico during 500-900 AD. They used them as companions and watchdogs for their homes and farms. They named this breed after the state of Chihuahua in Mexico where they were first discovered. There are over 30 different types of Chihuahua mix breeds that are recognized by registries today

Your own special chihuahua mix may have some interesting origins!

The Chihuahua is a very old breed, but its origin is unclear. It’s believed that the Chihuahua was first bred in Mexico, where it was used as a companion dog by the natives. The name “Chihuahua” itself comes from an indigenous Indian tribe who lived in that region at one point in history (and whose language sounds something like “chihuhuahua”).

The Chihuahua also makes an excellent choice for people who live in small apartments or homes and have allergies because their coat sheds very little hair and they don’t shed dander like some breeds do!

Conclusion

Chihuahuas are a very unique breed, and they have a long history behind them. If you’re looking for a dog that will give you lots of love and companionship, then this is the right choice for you!
