Introduction

If you’re like most people, you’ve probably heard about the Yorkshire Terrier and thought about getting one. But if you haven’t noticed them scampering around in their tiny little sweaters, this is what they look like:

They are absolutely adorable! What’s not to love? They’re small enough to cuddle with but big enough to be independent. They have a spunky attitude and don’t mind being bossed around by their owners. They’re smart as can be, too—they love puzzles and games. In short, they’re perfect pets for anyone who wants an animal friend that’s fun-loving and easygoing but also has lots of personality. And did we mention how cute Yorkies are?

They’re Not All That Small

The Yorkshire Terrier is one of the most popular breeds in the world, but they’re not all that small. In fact, they’re about the same size as a Jack Russell Terrier–about 10 inches tall and 8 pounds. They’re also roughly equal in size to other breeds like the Maltese and Chihuahua. So even though Yorkies can be considered “toy dogs,” you shouldn’t expect to see one stuffed inside your purse anytime soon!

The First Yorkie Was Found Near Hull, England

He was named Jack Russell Terrier because he was bred to be a companion dog and rat hunter.

The Yorkshire Terrier is one of the oldest breeds in existence today. It’s been around since at least 1850 when they were first shown at dog shows in England by Lady Wentworth, who owned several yorkies herself!

They Have a High Preference for the Short End of the Stick

Yorkshire terriers are stubborn, independent, and loyal. They are also headstrong and have a high preference for the short end of the stick.

Yorkshire Terriers were originally bred to be ratters in mining communities in England’s Yorkshire region. As such, they are known for their intelligence and tenacity when facing off against rodents–as well as other things like squirrels or cats who may come into their territory uninvited.

They Shed Like Crazy

Unlike other breeds, they don’t require much grooming–in fact, most owners just brush their dogs’ hair once or twice a week. But this doesn’t mean that you can forget about shedding altogether. Even though Yorkies don’t shed as much as some other breeds (like poodles), they still have an undercoat that sheds year-round and needs to be removed by brushing or combing once in awhile.

This means that if you have allergies, a Yorkshire Terrier might not be right for you: some people are allergic to dog dander (the dried skin flakes produced by all dogs), while others are allergic only when they come into contact with fresh urine or feces from their pets (which can also trigger reactions).

They Are a Jack Russell Mix

You may have heard that Yorkies are a mixed breed. This is true, but it’s not as simple as saying that they’re a combination of other purebreds and then calling it a day. As it turns out, the Yorkshire Terrier isn’t even purebred itself! According to The Kennel Club (UK), the original terrier was bred by crossing toy Fox Terriers with black-and-tan Border Collies and white Scottish Terriers.

So now you know that if you’ve spent your life believing in the purity of your beloved pup’s lineage…well…you were wrong! But at least this bit of news means there are no hard feelings between us anymore 😉

The Yorkshire Terrier is One of the Most Popular Dog Breeds in the World

There are more than 9 million Yorkies in the USA, and they’re also popular in other countries such as England and Australia.

The reason for their popularity is simple: these little dogs are cute, small, and easy to train–but that’s not all! They’re also smart little critters who can be trained for service work (such as guiding people who are blind) or even assistance with hearing problems.

YORKIES ARE THE BEST DOGS!

They’re cute, cuddly and easy to take care of. They are smart and playful, loyal and protective – they make a great companion for kids or adults! Yorkshire Terriers are also very easy to train as they love learning new tricks. They can be good with other dogs but should not be left alone with any small animals such as rabbits or guinea pigs because they may hurt them unintentionally while playing around with them (or sometimes even on purpose!).
